...it's an early spring.
Believe it or not, spring ball starts this afternoon. That should help me get back in the habit of posting frequently.
Sal's coverage makes mention of some of the personnel issues this team faces.
Gone are six defensive starters, including star defensive end Josh McNary, middle linebacker Stephen Anderson and nose guard Mike Gann. Four starting offensive linemen are graduating.
"We lost a lot," said Mackey, who started all 13 games as an interior lineman in 2010. "There's going to be some youngsters on the field. We are going to see who can ball and who's going to prove themselves and step into a role."
West Point recognized the Armed Forces Bowl championship team during halftime of the Army/Colgate. Just be warned, this one's a 12 page slideshow.
Personnel wise, Rich Ellerson had a chance to bring in another nice big class. I was looking for a list of athletes coming in from USMAPS and I noticed Victor Ugenyi's brother Mike was listed on last season's USMAPS roster- certainly something to take note of.
Here's a nice profile piece on Jake Peterson, who was likewise helped in his choice of schools by his brother graduating center, Zach Peterson.
"He helped me a lot and gave me some good advice," said Jake of the recruiting process. "He let me know what to expect and how to handle some of the things that were going on."
Like his older brother, Jake now expects to enroll in the academy's prep school, known as MAPS, with a potential reunion. Zach, who is also engaged to girlfriend Kassie Brooks, is looking into coaching football in the USMAPS program and a potential reunion with his younger brother.
In the next few weeks count on Sal to be a beast with spring football coverage. Right now he's got news on WR George Jordan leaving the team, the Black Knights' new captain, and some possibilities at the center position.
