Sorry the posts have been so few and far between. I'm not sure if a recap of all spring ball info is warranted as Sal has meticulous notes on the spring practices.
One item that that is at the top of the spring practice notes is that Freshman QB Chase Cresto isn't practicing due to a lower leg injury.
With Trent Steelman out with the shoulder that leaves 2nd string Max Jenkins and Jimmy Reiter live at the QB spot.
The 2011 roster is up over at GoArmySports, definitely worth checking out.
From what I can see USMAPS prep A.J. McGovern hasn't made the roster of the Black Knights. I've been a big fan of McGovern being that we're both from the Wilkes-Barre area.
A.J. saw time playing on the USMAPS team last year, and presumably made the trip back to Wilkes-Barre for the game against Kings College JV. I don't know whether it was few injuries or just moving on from football that kept A.J. off the Black Knights 2011 roster, but I have no question about his work ethic, and I'm sure he will do exceptionally well in the classroom and beyond.
I probably touched on the schedule before, but here it is again.
Sat, Sep 03 at Northern Illinois at DeKalb, Ill. Huskie Stadium TBA
Sat, Sep 10 SAN DIEGO STATE West Point, N.Y. Michie Stadium 12/3:30 PM
Sat, Sep 17 NORTHWESTERN West Point, N.Y. Michie Stadium 12/3:30 PM
Sat, Sep 24 at Ball State at Muncie, Ind. Scheumann Stadium TBA
Sat, Oct 01 TULANE West Point, N.Y. Michie Stadium 12/3:30 PM
Sat, Oct 08 at Miami (Ohio) at Oxford, Ohio Yager Stadium TBA
Sat, Oct 22 at Vanderbilt at Nashville, Tenn. Vanderbilt Stadium TBA
Sat, Oct 29 FORDHAM West Point, N.Y. Michie Stadium 12/3:30 PM
Sat, Nov 05 at Air Force at USAFA, Colo. Falcon Stadium TBA
Sat, Nov 12 vs. Rutgers at Bronx, N.Y. Yankee Stadium 12/3:30 PM
Sat, Nov 19 at Temple at Philadelphia, Pa. Lincoln Financial Field TBA
Sat, Dec 10 vs. Navy at Washington, D.C. FedEx Field 2:30 PM
The home games are all slated for a noon or 3:30 start. That's fair enough considering the home dates will all be televised. The Rutgers game at Yankee Stadium will count as a home game for the Black Knights and will be televised on CBS college sports- which, frankly, is better TV coverage than Rutgers could muster in their game at the Meadowlands Stadium last year.
6 televised games, 3 games (the final 3 of the year) at professional sports venues and another fair shot at bowl eligibility. There will be late season chances at retribution in those pro stadium games and a rather attractive all-New York slug fest at Michie vs. a Fordham program who is looking to awaken some echoes of its own. I want Fordham's program to succeed in a big way, but don't expect me to root for the Rams at the expense of Army.
