Yearbook: Limestone College Calciid

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

The Limestone college Calciid and Lantern yearbooks can now be singled out as the first yearbook in my growing and illustrious yearbook collection whose institution has never had a football team. I have no problem adding Limestone College's best effort to this website's yearbook shelf. Limestone College began as South Carolina's first women's college and phased in coeducational instruction in the early 1960s. Limestone happens to be a lower division lacrosse powerhouse and Limestone LAX coach Mike Cerino isn't apologizing to anybody:

"Without football, I think that allows us to kind of create an even playing field across the athletic teams," Cerino said, "in the fact that we don't have to support one more than the other. It creates a situation where all of our teams can be competitive, not just within the conference but regionally and nationally."
Just don't tell that kind of stuff to Hofstra...      _      ...DANG!

The Limestone College Library has put together a world-class effort in digitizing their Calciid yearbooks and current catalogs.
This one is published on Issuu, which I've had issues with in the past, but this time Issuu delivers a pretty impressive digital yearbook. Yearbooks are available for the years 1904, 1907, 1908, 1920, 1923, 1925, 1927-1949, and 1950-1969.

Still, no football, but even without gridiron lore I see these Limestone College yearbooks as one of the more important additions to  my yearbooks list mainly because of the ambitious work of the library staff involved in digitizing these books. Visit the library's website for more Limestone information or go simply to pay respect for their work creating this top quality digital yearbook.

I plan on adding new yearbooks under the Yearbook tab on the Wednesday every week.
Check back next week as we get back to football with a BCS school's yearbook.
